Varnell UMC Mission Impossible: Mission Impossible was a TV show in the 1960s reproduced as movies between 1996 and 2006. It is also a description of Varnell UMC’s revised mission statement. There is no way we can “offer Christ while becoming whole-hearted Christ followers” on our own. Offering Christ? Yes, that we can do. Whole-heartedly following Christ? That is a tough assignment. Yet, with God all things are possible. Varnell’s revised mission statement was accepted and approved by the Administrative Council in January. Where the previous statement was three short phrases, Varnell’s new mission statement is shorter, clearer, and a powerful reminder of the mission Christ has for this church and those who worship here. “Offering Christ while becoming whole-hearted Christ followers” reflects the power of the great commission (Matt 28:19) and the personal responsibility to continually grow in faith (1 Peter 2:2). These are to happen at the same time. You do not have to be “spiritually mature” to offer Christ to others. Yet, when we follow or offer Christ half-heartedly, really bad things happen. Please join in this eternal quest. Offer Christ while you grow in faith. Accept the personal responsibility to offer Christ to others and to mature your faith. Do this – and you shall gain Life.
